This involves analysing power-sharing, helping nurture and build relationships, building capability, designing the process, facilitating and implementing projects. Often M\u0101ori realities sit outside the middle of the bell curve. This, combined with M\u0101ori being perceived as \u2018hard to reach\u2019, results in services and policies within government that don\u2019t meet the needs of M\u0101ori, which leads to poor outcomes and disengagement.\u00a0 In our experience, this is why it is critical to design for M\u0101ori at the centre.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A body of research is building to show that what works for M\u0101ori works for all, so if we design with this in mind we will create greater engagement across the board, de-risk government programmes and start the journey to fulfil basic Treaty obligations.\u00a0 M\u0101ori-centred design considers all \u2013 so there is no Bell curve where people miss out. It is iterative and steeped in cultural integrity and innovation for the future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div facilitate a co-design process for M\u0101ori data leaders and experts with 16 Crown agencies to develop a M\u0101ori Data Governance Model.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The co-design process embedded tikanga M\u0101ori and centred on M\u0101ori voice whilst creating space for K\u0101wanatanga participants to share their perspective. A Waka Hourua model for M\u0101ori data governance resulted with an Ohu (working party) established to develop its work plan and secure funding from government resources.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our internal evaluation team reviewed the co-design process, providing recommendations on how to iterate the process to meet the changing needs of participants.
